Metal film resistors: A metallic film is sprayed on the ceramic substrate, which is then cut into the spiral body. Metal film resistors are more stable and low noise when exposed to applied voltages and thermal changes than carbon resistors.
Meal oxide film resistors: These resistors utilize metal oxide deposited on the ceramic rod and shielded using the epoxy coating. The resistance is adjustable through cutting grooves in the film.
Wire wound resistors: These resistors are basically used for applications with high power. They contain a low level of temperature coefficient with a high level of reliability.
Wire wound resistor is the oldest kind of resistor, but they still possess high power ratings alongside excellent characteristics for values of low resistance.
These have modifiable resistance. A potentiometer is an excellent example of variable resistors as it has a dial which can be turned for ramping up or down the resistance.
Other examples of variable resistors are rheostat and trimpot.
